selling your used car?

If you sold your used car to a dealer or commercial place, can you please tell me where you got the best $ from? Thanks! We really want to get rid of our Santa Fe, but DH went to the dealer today and they want to give us less than what we owe on the loan. I can't afford to do that.... TIA! :)

Re: selling your used car?

you will need to sell it privately to get get any money for it. The dealer is going to give you Blue book and the fast cash for cars usuallu give around the same price for a car or SUV.

Its a pain but start listing it on various sites......Also put a for sale sign on it....

We've got the for sale sign on it and put it on Craigslist... haven't gotten any hits for it yet... DH took it to Hyundai today and they wanted less than the remainder of the note for it... It needs about $600 worth of cosmetic work and we just want to unload it ASAP for the value of the note....I just lowered Craigslist to 9,500 (which is the value of the note).

Re: selling your used car?

stay away from places like car cash

they told my husband over the phone they would give us a certain amount for our pathfinder

so Jake drove all the way there- and the price was half what they said on the phone

we ended up trading it in for $1K more then we owed

Definitely sell it privately. You will get more money for it that way. My DH is a dealer. He says they don't really use KBB, but have NADA books they use based on the mileage and condition as well as year of the car. Yes, the price they give to you is lower so that they can fix up the car, if necesary, and certify it, if that's what the dealer does (my DH only sells certified used vehicles).

Re: selling your used car?

thanks guys...the thing is we don't need a 2nd car so we can't use it as a trade in... it's just private sale or dealer at this point...and to take a loss on the note now from a dealer would stink, but it would even out if we had to pay for the car to sit on our lot for the next 5 or 6 months... would you ever take a loss on it? I can't justify doing that...

we let out pathfind sit until it was worth more then we owed

even then- it was not easy to sell

we had alot of interest- but the car wasn't that old and most of the feedback we got was the people loved the car- but decided to get a new one instead- (nissan should have given us a kick back)

I think used cars have to be cheap enough to make it worth it for a person NOT to go to the dealership - like $5K or less
it sucks- but they make new cars so easy to get now

Re: selling your used car?

List it on autotrader.com. I listed a Huyndai Elantra there last year and sold it in a week. This past week I listed our Nissan Maxima and just sold it today.

Re: selling your used car?

We just bought a Santa Fe this weekend and we were going to trade in my car.
Hyndai offered us not what we wanted. We are going to try our best to sell on our own.
Im going to put flyers everywhere in town. Hoping maybe even a HS or college student may buy it or someone who needs a good station car.
We shall see.
