RF Extenders

Can a technologically savvy person explain to me how this works? I would love to move the cable box and dvd player away from my flat screen, maybe into a closet. Is this possible using one of these things?

It would probably be cheaper, easier, and more "stealth" just running the signal wires from the cable/DVR boxes to the TV, and getting a remote extender.

The RF extender broadcasts the signal from the DVR to the TV, but then you need to mount the RF extender receiver near the TV, and still run wires from the receiver to the TV. As long as you don't put the cable box too far away, you can run the hard wires from the boxes to the TV, and mount a smaller remote extender anywhere in the room. It doesn't have to be near the TV.
