Long Distance Move Help Needed

Has anyone here done a long distance move with a company where you pack the truck and they move it for you? Who did you use and do you recommend them?

Do you recommend a moving company?

I need to find a good price with a reputable company to move us to NC. Thanks.

Re: Long Distance Move Help Needed

I looked into Budget and it seems like so much to do it all ourselves. I was curious to see how much it would cost if we did not have to make the move.

I will FM mishandgerard. Thanks.

My mother used Red Ball to move to Florida and they were good...they worked quickly on the NY end and they got to Florida a couple of days earlier then they estimated. I remember the price being reasonable -- it goes by weight.

You're smart to go that route and pack it yourself.

My boss used a company to move to SC- they packed everything and their estimate was completely off by thousands. They held all of the furniture until he gave them a certified check.

Good luck with your move!

WOW, that's is horrible. I was looking into moving companies and they all want estimates of how much I have. I am not all packed yet so I am not sure how many boxes to tell them I will have. It seems very weird to me and I was afraid of not estimating correctly.

It looks like doing it myself with a Budget truck is not much less than hiring a company to do it for me. I have some companies coming by this weekend to give me quotes.

Actually we are using PODS as well. I can't tell you how much stuff we have. It is nuts. Long story short - we live in a tiny apt here and have been storing most of our stuff at our parents homes. We are using the PODS to bring all that stuff down to NC to store it there. They offer a great deal!! Unfortunately our apartment stuff won't fit in the PODS as well (it's only 16') so I need a way to bring the stuff in my apartment down there. Don't ask, I am besides myself with all of this.

Re: Long Distance Move Help Needed

When we moved to Florida we used Mayflower. We packed our own boxes and then they came and wrapped all of our furniture and carried everything out to the truck. They offered to pack our stuff, but we opted to do it ourselves. Just be sure to tell them what you have (furniture wise) so you can get an estimate close enough of your weight. The price goes by the weight of your stuff. We moved from a 1 bedroom apt. and estimated about 5,000lbs, which was probably over, but it was better to be over than under. The also checked out good with the BBB, which is also very important when hiring a long distance moving company. Just be careful of these "no name" companies...they tend to be uninsured. I did a ton of research on this, so if you have any other questions, feel free to fm. Good Luck Chat Icon

Re: Long Distance Move Help Needed

Thanks. Mayflower is one of the companies I have stopping by on Saturday. I hear good things about them.

I put my name on some moving company website and they gave my name to every company on LI I think. I have never heard of any of these places and so I do not plan on looking into them. I need to know I can trust the people.

This is so stressful.
