Re: Steamer instead of Iron??
I think they are a waste IMO, they take up to much space and take a while to warm up. I have ruined silk tops thinking it was better then an iron. For the money I would just stick with an iron. IMO

Actually I have a My Little Steamer from Joy Mangano (HSN) and I love it. It is probably 5+ years old and going strong. I cannot remember the last time I took the iron out of the closet!

i have a conair steamer that someone gave me at my shower. i wouldn't recommend it. it takes forever and doesn't really work that great. i would definitely stick with an iron.

I have the same one and I agree. If the item is really badly wrinkled, they won't totally come out. An iron definitely gives you better results. The steamer is good for a quick touch-up.

Re: Steamer instead of Iron??
I have the Rowenta professional garment steamer and I love it, use it almost daily, but I wouldn't give up my iron either.
They both have their uses.
It depends on the fabric and what level of ironing you are looking for. A steamer won't give you the stiffness of using a traditional iron and starch.
I use the steamer for knits, sweaters, delicates and skirts. Also for things that I can't use an ironing board for - window coverings, bed skirts, etc.
edited to add: Using a steamer takes patience. You need to go over the garment carefully, constantly pulling the material and smoothing it out. I haven't had a problem with not being able to get out wrinkes.

I have this too and I LOVE it. I don't use it daily though. I use it on formal dresses, costumes, sheer curtains, etc.
I iron daily with my regular Rowenta iron.
