Trying to move up...
Today might not be the day for this but...... One of the girls in my department just gave her 2 weeks notice. Her position is just above mine. Our manager just stopped by our floor and I just sort of dropped a teeny hint that I would be interested in moving into her position...
The body isn't even cold yet!! Am I being crazy or proactive?

Re: Trying to move up...
Def. be proactive and maybe in a week or so, bring up the topic again and say what your assets are for her position and see what happens.
Worse they say is no!

Re: Trying to move up...
You should definitely pursue it -- it shows initative and promoting from within is usually easier then getting new hires. Of course they would need to get someone to replace you in your current position but again, the training would be easier since you will be there to help.
Good luck!

Re: Trying to move up...
IMO be proactive, don't wait. Approach your boss. Perhaps you might be able to turn over with her. She left the job, why would she care who fills it?

Re: Trying to move up...
You are most certainly not crazy!
The last time I wanted a job and I knew the person that held it was resigning, I was literally IMing with someone who sat near her supervisor so I knew exactly when it was done. I dont know how it is at your company, but at mine you have to do it like this or you wont get anywhere!
Good luck!

Definitely be proactive and assertive. How long have you been in your current position?

Re: Trying to move up...
I don't think there is anything wrong with it, so long as you aren't really new to the company! If you've paid your dues I think that's one of the only ways to move up!

Re: Trying to move up...
I'm not a rookie but I'm fairly new. My boss now is well aware. Hopefully I took the right steps. She seemed pretty happy that I was interested.... Hopefully that's a good sign. I'll keep you updated!
