Right now...
They are taking a tree down in our front yard. I am so sad!
It had a HUGE hollow spot on the bottom and was severely leaning towards the street, so we requested that the town take it down. God forbid there was a huge storm, it would have come crashing down right onto our across-the-street neighbor's house.
They will be planting another tree sometime before November
(it's the one on the right of the screen)
Goodbye tree!
I can't believe I'm tearing up over a tree!

Re: Right now...
It breaks my heart to walk through my neighborhood and see a tree marked with a hugh orange "X". I know that tree will be coming down. Trees are living, breathing things and, unless they are diseased and become a hazard, they should be left alone. I remember when the people who used to live across the street had two of the most beautiful trees cut down. I saw those trees planted and watched them grow. There was nothing wrong with them. They just didn't want the work of raking leaves. I stood in my driveway and cried to see such beautiful things die for no reason. The world can be such an ugly place and trees bring a little beauty into it.

Re: Right now...
V., you should see what they took down at my house. I felt so bad that we were getting rid of so many trees but they were half dead.

Re: Right now...
its sad, but based on your pic, the tree is a hazard being on the curb like that and leaning, eKK! Glad they are taking care of it for you.

Re: Right now...
I'm sorry hon.
It sounds like you're making the right decision though, if the tree is diseased or weakened. I can see from the picture too that the tree is lifting up the sidewalk and occluding utility lines.
I get so sad to see them chop off branches and trees because of the utility lines but that was poor planning on the original planter's part. My block has big beautiful trees overhaning the road that are planted between the sidewalk and the street. But the sidewalks are a big hazard!
You can do it right now though, research the appropriate tree for you, and plant it in a better place.
