My maternity leave...

My company said they would give me 6 weeks at 50% pay and the next 4 weeks i would have to use my vacation time ( which is all of it) at 100% pay, and then 2 weeks if i want it at 0 pay.

Ive been with this company for a long time, and cant help but feel somewhat dissapointed. Just not sure what else I would want...

What do you think?

Doesn't sound like you're in the position to negotiate. Sorry you're disappointed. Did you think the policy was different? On the bright side, some women don't get any time paid Chat Icon

If that is the company policy then there is not much that you can do. I think it's an OK deal. If you had to take state disability, you would only get $170 a week gross and 6 weeks completely unpaid.

I know it's not the best but it could be a lot worse.

If I want to get paid for maternity leave I have to use my own sick days.....I'd be happy to have what you are getting

It's not great, but it is better than what most people receive. I get no paid leave, though I can use my sick time (which accrues so if you work here awhile it's not bad) and my vacation.

U.S. leave policies are abysmal in general, so what you are outlining isn't bad.

Re: My maternity leave...

It's a better deal than I have. My company pays nothing, all I'll get for the 6 or 8 weeks I am out is disability pay. I can use my vacation time but since I'm due in January I don't want to use up all my time by March.

Re: My maternity leave...

It doesnt sound too bad.

I would double check on the disability however only because I have heard a lot of people me included find out that even though you get 6 weeks, its truly only 5 weeks paid because it takes 1 week for the disability to kick in. For instance if I want to get paid that first week I have to use my time, then I get 5 weeks disability.

That is NYS disability. She is talking about her company's policy, two different things.

I actually think that is an excellent policy. If I hadn't been fired, then I would have just gotten the $170 per week.

Oh, and Iraq? They have a better maternity policy than we doChat Icon

Re: My maternity leave...

I'd be ecstatic with that. I get to use all my accumulated sick, personal and vacation time and when that runs out I get no salary at all, aside from the NYS disability. I think I'll have about 3 weeks of full pay, 6 weeks of pathetic disability and 3 weeks of nothing. I don't know how I'm expected to survive. Chat Icon
