Anyone deciding to forgo the infant car seat?

I'm debating whether or not we should forgo the infant car seat and just stick with the convertible seat from the beginning. I live in the city but we do drive alot on the weekends. However, I've been doing some research and I've been reading that it's not good for an infant to be laying in the infant car seat for too long and that it may increase the chances of SIDS.

I know the infant seats are more convenient because you can move the baby in and out of the car without waking them but I know they area also used alot with the snap n go...I see alot of infants spend alot of time in their car seats. However the only one we would consider is the Graco Snugride that only goes to 22 lbs...I think most babies outgrow that seat within 6 months.

We are getting a pram type stoller that lays flat for her to lay in while she's stilll small. Do you think it's a good idea to forgo the infant car seat and just stick to the convertible from the get. TIA!

Alot of this depends on the size of the baby. I have a smaller baby she just hit a little ove 5 lbs and the hospital recommends an infant car seat since the convertible seat does not offer as much head support.

I skipped it both times. And I had small babies.

Here's something interesting I realized yesterday though:

I've been taking this infant massage class with smdl (instructor) and some other girls on this site. All of them were amazed by my son's head and neck control...he's like a neck holding star. (haha) he's the only baby in the group that has been in a convertible seat since birth and NO bouncy seats. Always ona blanket on the floor (on his tummy) or in my arms or napping. I used neck wings and have a head support in the carseat. He has done fine. I see no piont in wasting the money on infant seats since the convertible can hold a 5 pound baby...and those infant seats are HEAVY without a baby inside!

Do you ever take cabs to get around in the city? If so, you are going to want the infant carrier.

Even if you never take the infant car seat out of the car, I'd still buy both unless you need that extra $100 to pay bills.

Its really dependant upon your lifestyle. I have always had one...for the twins it was definitely something necessary!! But this time around I probably could of done without it and done just fine.
