Bacon
Has Nitrates too!
I had an urge for an egg sandwich on a nice soft roll, with fat free cheese, and for the first time in YEARS I splurged with 2 pieces real bacon.
It was so FREAKIN good, but now I look it up and I did not know bacon has sodium nitrates
Just when I found something I really liked eatting.....I am really tired of this whole pregnancy diet!

Re: Bacon
yup i know, i think there is no nitrate bacon like there is no nitrate hot dogs. Look in the store for it. I have also stayed away from sausage bc i am not sure if it has nitrates in it also...

Re: Bacon
Ok, I'll have to look for the nitrate free stuff. Has anyone tried it?
What about regular sausages? I like turkey sausaes, do you think they have nitrates too.
I am fine with no cold cuts, but now I am finding more and more things I need to limit.

Re: Bacon
I eat bacon and hot dogs occasionally. Maybe once every 2 weeks I'll have one hot dog, and once a month some bacon.

Re: Bacon
The no nitrate hotdogs are actually really yummy. There is just nitrates in some foods so they can stay on the shelf longer ( well i believe thats a part of it)

Re: Bacon
i wouldn't worry about it at all - i truly believe that everything is fine in moderation. our parents didn't have any of these "rules" and their generation turned out just fine! i think we drive ourselves crazy these days for nothing.

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!!!!!!
Yes, this is the truth.
I ate cold cuts, bacon, hot dogs, sushi (although california rolls), had soda, drank a bellni on my mom's birthday and champage on my wedding anniversary and DS is 110% FINE.
There is no such thing as the preggo police, NO ONE will come to get you if you eat bacon, EVEN if you ate it every other day. Everyone makes such a big deal about what they are eating, as long as you aren't drinking excessively or doing drugs or causing obvious harm to your child, then you and your baby will be fine.

Re: Bacon
I've had bacon and hotdogs.I've never heards anything bad about eating either while pregnant. Sorry to sound stupid or lost. The only things I've been told not to eat is certain seafood and soft cheese. I honestly think you shouldn't feel so bad.

Re: Bacon
well, I stopped feeling bad. I think the moderation is key. The sandwich tasted TOO GOOD, to be upset about it and it's done.
At least now I know it's something I should not eat on a regular basis.
