He really s u c k s
Ahhh, so the master finally responded:
"You really should hire a mover.... why take the stress of doing it yourself? Thousands of dollars? I'm pretty sure you could find someone to move the few boxes you say there are, on a weekday, for $500 or less.... You said the Sunday before the move you will be going to Ikea.....? Buy the Ikea stuff on a Saturday and have the movers help move it into the apartment - this way I can help out getting all the stuff from Ikea.
I did offer to help for 6 hours on Monday. And I offerred to help what I can the rest of the week because I really doubt it'll all get done in one day.... But you seem to have your schedule all set.... I'll see if I can work around it......"

Brilliant...

I was thinking the same thing. Using movers is a GREAT idea...if he would offer to pay for it

took the words right out of my mouth
if he doesn't want to help- he should just hire the movers and be done with it
like you need this

Re: He really s u c k s
It's just stupid because hiring movers will do nothing for us. We still have to pack up his stuff, buy all his furniture at Ikea, and unpack and set up all the furniture. All hiring movers will do is have someone else load the boxes and unload the boxes. Why pay someone to do that? I'll still have to oversee what they are doing - it won't save us any time. All it will save is a little bit of physical labor - big whoop.
I'll still need help getting the Ikea furniture, setting it all up and packing and unpacking all of my Dad's stuff.
He's just making excuses. I don't know if it's that he honestly doesn't care, of if there's something more personal going on here between he and I. At this point, I don't care. I'm not going to bother with a response.

I'm sorry he let you down. He doesn't deserve to have an amazing sister like you. Focus your energy on the people who appreciate you, DH, your dad and of course Alex

Ahhh, but give it 15 years or so and Alex will feel the same way about Mommy as uncle. In fact, maybe I'll just ship her off to live with him as payback!

Then she will really appreciate you! Will he have room for Jordy too? If her toddler years are any indication, she is going to impossible as a teenager.

What part of 'you can't move on the weekend' did he NOT uderstand! I am so sorry you are going through this. He clearly doesn't care & is just making excuses not to do it.

you want my letter back?
In all honesty, I'm soooo tempted to write back to him, copy my other brother in on the email (yes, the same brother who lives in VA, and never visited my father ONCE after his open heart surgery, and called, hmmm, let's see, six days later!), who also told me he can't help me on Monday because they are installing a new system on the work PC's (ok, that's more important I suppose, right? ), and basically say...
I'm done, I've put enough effort and work into caring for our father - now it's your turn. I don't have the time, means or mental acuity to handle the move, and because you both seem to disagree with how I'm scheduling everything, I wipe my hands clean of the whole process and I'm leaving it entirely to the two of you to figure EVERYTHING out, from bringing him to stores to pick out his furniture, schedule movers, pack, unpack, build his furniture, etc. Let me know if you need anything, but I'll probably be busy with work - Good luck!

thata girl! that will be my letter.
If he's so sure he can do this better and with more efficiency, let him. Tell him you're waiting for instructions from him and when to be there to help. You may want to give him your availability. Also, tell him that you are having dad call him to work out the details.

As much as I would want to write that letter, I would be more worried about how your dad would feel if he found out. I know you don't want your dad to feel like he is a burden or the cause of strife between you and your brothers.

You know as much as I agree with not wanting dad to have to have aggravation over this, he is a grown man, has made decisions and knows his daughter is doing everything. I think it wouldn't be bad for dad to participate.

Nahhh, that was a daydream - I can't do that to my father - he's very stressed, anxious and nervous about the move, and I think he would truly, literally, have a heart attack if my brothers were handling the move instead of me.
Part of the reason why they are who they are is because he and my mother can see no wrong in them - they make more excuses for them than they make for themselves, so getting him involved won't do a damn thing except to frustrate me even further.

Nope, not writing him back. I'm just going to wait and see - I'll plan on doing everything myself and if he shows up, great, if not, no big loss
