what type of lighting do you have in rooms with no lights in the ceilings ?

Im tired of the torchiere/floor lamps
I want some type of pendant lights, but something simple (right now, for my office area, as well as the kids playroom). Im afraid the torchiere/floor lamp one is going to tip over on them in the playroom, so anything NOT on the floor... thats simple to install.

high-hats are not a priority right now although we plan to do them down the road.

just dont know what styles to search for.
