Do you think my doctor slipped???
At my appointment on Wednesday, my Doctor said "he" one time when talking about my baby.
DH and I decided not to find out the sex of the baby.
First of all, do you think the doctor knows what the sex is already? Do you think the sonogram tech's make a note on their charts?
Is it possible that my doctor slipped or that they use he/she regardless so that they don't have to use "it"?
Thoughts???
I'm not concerned either way... DH and I are convinced that we are having a boy anyway..... hmmmmmm!

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
Tough call- but at my 7w appt, the sono tech said "she". Obviously she had no idea, so maybe it's just the Dr.'s go-to pronoun.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
My doc. said she doesn't even look down there at the fetus b/c if she knows she's afraid she'd blurt it out. I referred to the baby as he (only b/c i like it better than it) but i have no clue and she said he right back to me. I honestly think they're not slipping they're just using a pronoun.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
i do think that the sono techs make a note of the sex, but i'm sure that the OB has trained himself to use only one pronoun so as not to give anything away!
maybe if you end up having a boy you can ask him if he knew.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
a lot of times the techs do make notes on the chart even if you request not to find out. Our tech did not make a note on our file though.
however there are also a lot of people / doctors who will choose a pronoun instead of saying it without really thinking about the sex. I know I do this, sometimes I refer to my baby as he and sometimes she because it feels more personal then it.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
My Dr. said she never looks at the sonogram report to see the sex. She says she likes to be just as surprised as the couple if they are not finding out. I think the DR.'s pic one pronoun because it is easier.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
i am not sure i think they just refer to the baby as "he" its easier. I carry my file from my sonos to the dr office upstairs and i looked through it in the elevator and saw nothing.. BUT I was not looking for it either.
I think if you tell them you are not finding out they dont write it so they dont screw up.. thats my opinion Amanda.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
My sono tech was calling the baby "he" throughout my sonogram, even as she was determining the sex -- I'm having a girl. I think it's just easier to say 'he' or 'she' and it's preferable to 'it'.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
My doctor always says she when she refers to the baby. I am only in my 16 week so I know she doesn't know. I think they just use a pronoun so they don't have to keep saying the baby or he or she.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
My doctor told us from the begining he always refers to babies as he. This was before you could even tell the sex. So I think pp's are right the doctor just picks one and sticks with it so they don't call the baby it.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
I think most docs use "he" just to make life easier. I found out the sex on 3 different occasions and it was never listed in my records. MY docs ask me all the time what I am having and specifically said that it is not mentioned in records...unless you had an amnio. That is probably different.

Re: Do you think my doctor slipped???
My doctor did that too - "That must be THE boy" - as in, one's a boy, one's a girl. BUT turns out I had two girls, so it wasn't a slip up. I had to get my sonos done elsewhere, so I don't even know if my OBs knew the sexes.
