something else we may need...
people are telling me to get an extra mattress protector/pad (aside from the one I already have) on my bed incase the baby has an accident on it.
Apparently they sell some kind of plastic ones? Not sure...but something to look into! Does anyone know where I can get one of these?

For the first few months don't think I would put the baby anywhere without a waterproof pad underneath ... too many leaks from every oriface, LOL
Try Lap Pads and Multi Use waterproof Pads like these

I have those, but I mean like if I put the baby on our bed for a little bit (like while BFing or something)...I think I want to get one for underneath our sheet that won't even leak onto our regular mattress pad? I guess I'll go to the store and see what they have!!

Re: something else we may need...
I took some of the hospital pads that they put under me after the c-section. They arent waterproof, but I always put it under the Taylor if she is on our bed or on the couch. I took a bunch of them home and they have come in handy, they wash great.

yeah! I was thinking along the lines of a vinyl (<-- sp?) or plastic one as long as it doesn't make noise when we move on it like grandma furniture

Our mattress has a vinyl cover (or made of something) sewn into the top. Not enough maybe? I also got lap pads.

Re: something else we may need...
i am using the ultimate crib sheet over my regular crib sheet, which has a plastic lining and supposedly saves you from having to change the whole bed.
do i also need these other pads?
ETA: oops, totally misread the question
i actually already have a vinyl mattress cover on my bed because there was a period where my new dog liked to pee on my bed (luckily, he got over it real quick ). but i think those little pads are a good idea to put under the baby when he is on the couch and stuff. i think i will invest in some.

I was talking about a plastic pad under our sheet for mine and DH's bed..
but you should probably have other small waterproof pads around for when you lay the babyon the couch, pack & play, etc

It is not a bad idea to get the mattress protector for your bed and put it on now. You never know when your water might break. It could happen in bed.
