Where is the placenta supposed to be located?

i was told i have an anterior placenta but i was looking at a diagram and realize the placenta is in the front so isn't that where the placenta should be? why would this affect my not feeling the kicks as often???

i thought placentas were supposed to be posterior?

I don't actually think it's a bad thing if it's anterior at all. I know mine is posterior but they never say much about it, they just point it out on the sono machine.

A posterior placenta is located in the back--which is where it "should" be. Anterior is in the front. That's what I had with #2. I was told it *may* affect my perception of her movement and it's true, I really didn't feel her until around 19 weeks (as opposed to 15.5 with #1), but she made up for it--I felt EVERYTHING after that. Anyhow, it's less common, but totally normal.

its just frustrating that i don't feel as much movement as i think i should. This is why they are now putting me on the monitor every week for 20 mins. to check baby's activity.

when i'm on the monitor the baby moves fine

AN anterior placenta is not bad, just annoying cause it cushions senestaions of movement. A low lying placenta can be reason for concern and if it does not move before delivery a c-section will be performed cause it will block off the cervix.
