Colic?
Okay, I've heard the term "colic" thrown around so many times -- I don't really understand what it means?
Can someone explain it to me?

Re: Colic?
It's when your infant cries for several hours straight a day several days a week. It usually starts around 6 weeks and ends around 3 months.
Sarah had it and would cry every day from about noon until about 4pm. Pretty much nothing can console them. White noise helps, like running water, vaccuuming, static on the tv or radio. I used to lie in bed cuddling her with my tv tuned to static until she'd cry herself to sleep. Except for walks in the park, I pretty much didn't take her out until she was over this because I learned quickly that people in stores will act like you are beating your child, even if you explain she has colic and is not in pain or hungry, just cries.
It's hard. There are days where you feel like if you hear crying one more time you're going to run away. But we made it through and now I'm very calm when she gets upset. My friends are amazed how calm I am when she cries in public.

Re: Colic?
We thought our son was colic since he was crying non stop. It turned out he was allergic to the milk based formula and it was hurting his belly so badly. He was constipated one week, pooping up a storm another week. His poor belly was in bad shape. Once we switched his formula, it was like night and day. The formula that he is on now actually says for colic babies.

Re: Colic?
Christopher had mild colic. Around the same time every night (about 6 or 7 at night) he would start screaming and crying and we wouldn't be able to console him for about an hour or two. He was extremely gassy and I think that had a lot to do with it. We switched his formula twice and now that he's on Enfamil Gentlease (for gassy and fussy babies), and now that we're using Dr. Brown's bottles, he's like a completely different baby.

Re: Colic?
My son cries everynight for two to three hours and nothing helps. Saturday we switched his formula to a soy and use Dr. browns...so far so good. We have had two nights without physical labor (rocking, swaddling, shushing, walking around the house with a stroller) Colicky babies are like work with overtime!
