So I asked my dr about....

Cooking with alcohol, and he said to avoid foods made with alcohol.

He also said to stay away acne creams/washes with salicylic acid.

Shellfish/seafood once a week is fine.

What did your dr say?

Re: So I asked my dr about....

That just makes no sense to me, because alcohol is burned off quickly.

My Dr. also didn't restrict shellfish, but I can't imagine I eat it more than once a week.

It's crazy how they all have different rules!

Re: So I asked my dr about....

I thought the alcohol was weird too, but asked it for piece of mind....never expecting him to say, I should stay away.

I am really started to lean towards the moderation principle.

AS I understand it alcohol must be simmered for about an hour to get rid of it completely. That being said I do occasionally eat chicken Marsala and figure the minute amounts in there won't hurt. I have not had a glass of alcohol this whole pregnancy.

I remember reading early on in my pregnancy that it actually does not burn off the way we think. I couldn't find what I read then, but I did find this on ochef.com. Hope it is helpful...

Re: So I asked my dr about....

I never asked about foods cooked with alcohol - but my doctor was okay with 1 glass of wine a week, so I think he would be okay with it.

He was totally okay with salicylic acid products - I specifically asked about it.

I was told shellfish in moderation.
