really? All i can find is that they';re beginning layoffs for a particular near-prime division. I hope they dont.

The only thing I found is that Merryl Lynch is saying the likelihood they will file for bankruptcy is high and that they have changed their status from buy to sell if you own stock.

Me too.
I also found a press release they issued last week saying that they had to withdraw money from their line of credit ($11.5m).

I hope this isn't true, and if it is true, I hope it doesn't mean anything particularly dentrimental for those with mortgages/loans with Countrywide. What I do find ironic if it is true, is that loan companies, before granting us a loan/mortgage, want us to spend wisely and have great credit/spending habits, while they themselves don't.

It will have virtually no affect on people already with them. We will only have to send our payments to someone other then Countrywide.

They didn't announce bankruptcy today. Just the layoffs in the mortgage origination unit.
There is a company called Sentinel that went bankrupt today, but that is a company that caters to investment companies only. Maybe her friend half heard the story about the layoffs and the one about Sentinel and mixed them up?
