Birth Announcements

I was talking to DH the other day while flipping through a PG magazine and I saw a cute birth announcement so I showed him. He was like "we have to do those? who are we going to send them to that doesn't know we are having a baby?" And that got me thinking... do we have to? Or am I just being cheap? Chat Icon

You don't have to. I always knew I wanted to send them out. My DH is going to do them in photoshop.

Re: Birth Announcements

We are doing them because we are not originally from LI and our family and friends are all OOT.

Re: Birth Announcements

We are doing them. I just ordered mine yesterday - 12 days after Jeffrey was born. We ended up spending way more than I thought we were going to but I found these adorable origami airplane ones that both my DH and I just loved. I will say we were not going to send many out either, but my MIL/FIL requested 40 of them and my parents requested 50 of them. We ordered 150 because we wanted to send out about 25 of them and I just did not want to cut it to close.

I had wanted to limit the number sent, but both my MIL and mom explained that they always send a gift for their friend's children and relatives who send them a birth announsement so they wanted me to send it so they could announce it to their friends. I was really mixed about this -- but they convinced me to do it. I will say we did not have a shower so I don't feel as badly about it. We did get some beautiful things for Jeffrey at his bris but we will still send those people announcements - they would be upset otherwise and told my mom so at the bris.

Re: Birth Announcements

I don't think you have to at all.

I'll probably do them but only b/c I want to...I don't feel like it is necessary

Re: Birth Announcements

You do not have to. However, I love announcements. My friends' announcements typically stay on my refrigerator for several months and then go into a scrapbook or photo album. I never say,"but I already knew she had a baby."

I am not having a shower, so I feel that I can at least ask people to spend 30 seconds checking out my announcement.

I would not find it odd if someone did not do them, though.

I would rather save the expens for when the baby is born and then you can send a Pic of the baby and all the info

Re: Birth Announcements

I doubt that I will do a birth announcement, mainly because everyone will know anyway. Ill probably send out invitations for the christening though.

Re: Birth Announcements

You don't have to do them. I am a paper product freak - I love invites, cards, announcements etc so I am definitely doing them. I also have a lot of OOT friends. I will also be sending to family that we are not super close with that wil not be called after the birth.

Re: Birth Announcements

Thanks for all the input.
I am so NOT a card person at all.
I just cant see sending them to close friends and family who will see the baby alot anyway and then if I send them to... lets say... all the people on my wedding invite list, I feel like its alot of work and money. Chat Icon

Re: Birth Announcements

i got them done at BRU and got the minimum package(it was very expensive to get them done there) then i made color copies of them someplace else for real cheap. I only sent them to closest family and friends, its a great keepsake. I did the birth announcment when Bella was 2 weeks old. I have it in the shadow box frame along with the dress she wore in the picture.
