With all these tragedies in the news...
I wish theyd have just as much HAPPY stories as they have sad stories..
Maybe they should have THE BAD NEWS and then THE GOOD NEWS....
Just some random thoughts, I was thinking I give lots of credit to Funeral homes, hospital/ER workers, and how they must handle these situations while being somewhat professional (and yet still be human and Im sure almost always have emotions bursting at the seams..)
I dont think I could handle your jobs. Thanks for being so strong for these famliies and for doing what you do for the community..
sorry if this didnt make much sense and was more random rambling...
the stories involving children particularly break my heart, and now drowning has been added to my phobia list along with choking.
thanks for letting me babble.

Re: With all these tragedies in the news...
I was thinking about that last night with the guy doing the CPR course. He looked like he was going to cry when he was talking about some of the stuff he's had to deal with.
I can't even imagine!

Re: With all these tragedies in the news...
It's ironic you should post this now, because I just received terrible news about the death of one of my students this week. I am in the mental health field and I am so devestated myself, I do not know how I will be able to help any one else through this tradegy. Just wanted to say thank you for posting this.

Thank you!!
The jobs you mentioned are not easy tasks........it is so difficult sometimes to have that perfect balance of sympathy & empathy.
I remember being taught in school that we should be empathetic & NOT sympathetic. I think it would be a diservice to families if I treated them that way. I try to balance it & make sure the people I care for know I am concerned about them.

Anna, I agree. That is why there are days where I just don't watch the news. I take an "emotional break" from it.
Barb, what you posted above is very true. My cousin was a paramedic (worked out of Bellevue) for about 7 years when he said he "had to get out". It was way too much emotionally. I think 9-11 put him over the edge. He's now in the mid west.
