another fur spinoff: to those that love fur....
can i just ask a question.....
Why do you love fur? why do you love fur coats? why would you want to wear it?
i am not trying to be rude, i just honestly wholeheartedly do not understand why someone would want to wear fur.

For some people (not all) it's a status symbol. I have family members who compete based on their fur coats.

My grandmother had tons of fur coats. I hated that and I asked her why she had them...she's wearing dead animals...
Her reply...I don't care....it keeps me warm.

Yeah because they're expensive, and blah blah blah.
Somehow knowing that 14 foxes were nally electrocuted for my coat doesn't make me feel really good about fashion, but some people are into that.

Here's my answer ... you won't like it and I really do not have the interest or enegry to argue with anyone who differs ... but here it is.
I do not love fur, nor to I hate fur. I do not love leather, nor do I hate leather. I do not specifically seek out fur or leather goods, but if I see soemthing I like that is my style I will buy it. Why? Because I am not an animal rights activist, because I eat meat and plants and eggs and fish and wear clothes that may or may not have been an animal once before. I'm indifferent, aka I don't think about it, I don't consider it. Meat and plants and vegetables and leather and fur are part of the world and America and my life and the people's surrounding my life. It just is.
Whether that makes sense or not to you, I don't know ... it's the best way to explain it.

I don't have fur, but people I know who have it say it keeps them warm like nothing else ever has and they would never go through a winter without one, now that they have worn one.

A lot of people also just think about it as clothes. Like, cotton, wool, nylon, leather fur, not about animals. Like beef is just food, same as broccoli.

Re: another fur spinoff: to those that love fur....
When we went to Alaska, we went to a demonstration at a trapper's lodge. They explained about the over-population of certain species and how trapping can actually help animals in the long run -- ex. no trapping species that are depleted or close to it; no trapping during gestational periods; and that trapping rules are adjusted depending on the animal population. Also trappers are given quantity limits so that there is no over-trapping or hunting. The native people use the animals for food, clothing, shelter.... but they have a ritual which thanks the animal's spirit for letting them use their bodies for so many resources.
I don't love fur, and I don't wear it. But now some of it makes more sense....but in no way do I condone the raising and mistreatment of animals purely for fashion's sake. However when it is 40 degrees below zero and mink is the only fur that doesn't freeze up by breathing on it and keeps you warmer than other materials, well then....

Re: another fur spinoff: to those that love fur....
My MIL has a fur coat and a fur shawl. And, she is just SO arrogant whenever she wears them. She took the shawl with her to a wedding last year and it was NOT cold out. It wasn't even remotely chilly out.
to her, it's all about status.
for me, I much prefer diamonds.
(and, yes, I have made sure that my diamonds are not from Sierra Leone)

I have a friend who lives in Canada, and she wears fur purely for the warmth.

For the people who live here, in the US (w/ the exception of Alaska - see below), it's about status.
For those who live in Canada, Alaska, Russia - I believe it's about warmth.
