Re: Breastfeeding
a lactation consultant will visit you in the hospital to help you get started....there are many good books on breastfeeding. I have one from the LLL that I can let you borrow if you would like, let me know if you want me to send it to you.

Re: Breastfeeding
First advice I can give before you deliver is to get books and take a class. I strongly recommend seeing the Lactation Consultant in the hospital when you deliver. There are Lactation Consultants and people from La Leche League to contact if you are having problems or need direction.

Re: Breastfeeding
If you want to find someone local, I used this site to find my LC:
Lactation Consultants
I cannot stress enough how much having a LC helped me. Her services WERE covered by my insurance. Because of her, I was able to get my DD latched PROPERLY (no sore nipples at ALL) and she provided me with wonderful information and support.
I have to be honest- La Leche kind of turned me off. They were very *militant* and I felt somewhat uncomfortable with their style. They aren't trained LC's, rather, they are lay people- so you might find some of their consultants have their own personal biases about BFing, parenting style, etc.

Re: Breastfeeding
If I remember from a previous post about St. Charles pumps, that's where you're delivering, right? If so, they have a FANTASTIC lactation consultant who comes to see all new moms who are breastfeeding/trying to breastfeed. Her name is Eileen. She works M-F I think...if you happen to need help while she's not there, all of my nurses were very informative and helpful. But Eileen is great, she's soooo helpful and you can even call her after you return home with the baby with questions, we've called her twice I think.
