Giving notice...HR question?
If you are giving 4 weeks notice and tell your company your last day, can they fire you before that date? I was told they have to pay you up to the date of your resignation...is this true?

I gave 2 weeks notice and was asked to leave after 5 days- I was paid for the rest of the days

I don't think they have to pay you up until your resignation date. what if you gave 3 months notice, you know?
if they ask you to leave sooner, they are not obligated to pay for a single day beond that.

Unless you are a contracted employee, NY is an at-will state and they can fire you any time they want for any reason and they don't have to pay you for the remaining time on your resignation.
They may offer to in certain industries, because they don't want you to take clients, so they don't want you to work out the two weeks.
