Re: to transfer, or not to transfer

Transferring sounds like the better option here especially because there is more room for growth.

My job requires me to drive around sometimes and I like the time I get to myself away from my desk. The trade off is you put wear and tear on your car that 37 cent on the mile just doesn't cover.

It sounds like you know what you want to do. What is the benefit to staying in NYC? The reimbursement of transportation?

If I had the option to get out of NYC and out from behind a desk all day I would do it in a heartbeat.

But you do have to think about the wear and tear on your car.....

Re: to transfer, or not to transfer

Well, the way I am, if it were me, I would transfer to NJ. I am so sick of the whole public transportation commuting thing and at this point, I'd love to hop in my car and go. Even during the day, going client to client, is a break in the day.

pretty much! I don't have to use my car and I get the subway faires completely reimbursed.

I'm worried about the transfer because of the driving that will be involved. I already have 85,000 miles on my SUV and with these gas prices, I think it will end up costing me money in the end...

It may- but if there is room for growth- is it worth it? How much would that growth be? What would be the next job? More running around?

I would transfer. I don't know where you live currently or if you own your own home, but maybe housing might be cheaper in NJ or you could even move upstate or closer to PA.

FYI - The Mileage rate is 40.5 cents/mile. From Sept-Dec 31, it's 48.5

Re: to transfer, or not to transfer

I don't think I would transfer if it were going to cost me money. For me, the only advantage to driving is not having to be on the subway in the summer Chat Icon If all the costs are paid for commuting, then I would keep the 35 minute commute to work until I found another job.

I drive to work and drive some while at work. I like getting out of the office, but if i had to drive a lot, I would find it very stressful to sit in traffic throughout the day.

Re: to transfer, or not to transfer

Depends on where you currently live. If you live in NJ its a no-brainer.

But if you live in Manhattan... or more importantly in Queens... commuting to NJ can be a real PITA.

Also... if the federal mileage rate is 48cents... isn't your job SUPPOSED to honor that? Aren't there laws about that?
