Moms over 35

I need some encouragement. I am 38 now and will be 39 soon. How are you doing and where are you at with your pregnancy or new baby

I'm here!!!! I'm in my late 30s and having my first. What really gets me through is the fact that I do not think that my health in my early 30s would have been more of a benefit to me, and I was definitely not ready at all in my 20s. So for me, this is what is meant to be.

I am now having a complication that probably sounds worse than it really is, so I won't give detail on a thread that is meant for encouragement. Doctors do not believe this to be age related at all and I just have a gut feeling that it is unrelated.

Re: Moms over 35

I'm here too Liz. I just had my first, 2 days after my 37th birthday. Thankfully I had a very easy pregnancy and am currently adjusting to life w/ a newborn. She's wonderful though & I feel being older that I have more to offer her and I feel like I waited a long time for this blessing.

After 16 hours of labor & not progressing past 7cm, I ended up w/ a c-section (which I had dreaded) but it truly wasn't bad at all. I was up & out of bed bright & early the next morning & have recovered quite easily.

We're here for you Liz Chat Icon

Hi Liz

I am 9 weeks and 3 days with my first and long awaited baby. I am 39 now and will be 40 when I deliver Chat Icon

I'm feeling OK, I'm tired and a little cranky, but keeping the nausea at bay by snacking.

I am to be honest scared, about both the pregnancy and being a Mummy for the first time, but I have longed for this and I'm going to do the very best I can do.

The ladies on this site have been bloody fantastic, helping through the IF and now the pregnancy, they know who they are and I cannot thank them enough

Anyway you're a spring chicken! How are you feeling? I think your due date is about a week after mine (I'm March 8)

Re: Moms over 35

Hi Liz,
I am 36 years old and this is my 1st baby. I am in my 32nd week now and feeling pretty good ( just trying to stay out of the heat)

We are hoping that we will be able to pull off having another baby relatively soon after this one. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have been monitered throughout this pregnancy for a blood clotting disorder & plaacenta previa in the very beginning.
As far as morning sickness, I had it 1X a day until week 10 and then I was feeling 100%.

Aside from all that, this pregnancy has been fine, the worst part is trying to get comfy @ night to sleep and speculating delivery Chat Icon . Fear is definitely a factor for me.

You will be fine, a friend of mine that lives in CA is 42, pregnant with her 1st. She is 5 weeks behind me and feeling great too.

Hang in there Liz, we are all here to support you.

I'm 39, will be 40 when I deliver, and am pregnant with my first. So far, I am doing well and am almost 22 weeks.

I had some nausea in the beginning and was exhausted the first 8-10 weeks when I would get home from work, but both things subsided in trimester 2. I do have bad bouts of heartburn, but I figure if that is the worst I have to deal with, I can handle it.

Re: Moms over 35

Liz you already have two beautiful children. This should be a walk in the park for you & Ron (since we all know how encouraging he will be Chat Icon ).

Anywho . . . . I'm over 40, will still be over 40 when the little bundle of joy arrives in December. So far the hardest part for me was the two week wait between the amnio and the results, (baby is fine), and the upheaval at my OB's office.

I'm now taking my MD's advice and enjoying being PG for the first (and only) time in my life.

DH & I have added the "stress" of first time homebuying to the mix, but the thought of getting to decorate a nursery and pick baby furniture is where the fun is.

Re: Moms over 35

Thank you all so much. My Due date is March 10th. I am a little queezy and tired. Really could be worse. Dont remember feeling tired with the other two. Then again I was 20 and 23 during my first trimester with them. I did have moring sickness with the first and just queezy with the second. I am putting off the sonogram. I think I want to wait till about 14 weeks. Early sept. My other two were born Face up so I had serious labor and close contractions with them the entire labors. Jon was born within 6 hours of my water breaking. 3 serious hours. (baby 2) I guess thats not bad. I worry about the c-section possibility. I am also pretty much a vegetarian for 12 years. This weekend I did have chicken and I think I will try to have some during the pregnancy. I know I dont eat enough protein. Sorry so long. Thanks all again Chat Icon

Re: Moms over 35

I'm 23 weeks, and just turned 40 yesterday! Chat Icon This is my first child. At the start of the pregnancy, I was concerned about my age being a problem, but physically, I've been doing really well. I had some exhaustion and nausea at the beginning, but a lot of people do. I'm doing well now, though my energy level isn't completely back to normal.

All of our tests show the baby is developing normally, though we decided to pass on the amnio. The only thing that complicates my pregnancy is the fact that I have a seizure disorder. I've been seizure free a long time, but I've had this since I was 17, so it's nothing new or directly related to the pregnancy. But so far, this has remained under good control, so I can't even say that has been an issue right now.

I'm sure you will be fine. Maybe this will be a little harder than when you were in your 20s, but it seems as if most people I talk to in this age group are fine.

Re: Moms over 35

Thank you all. I will be passing on the amnio as well. I am trying to swim or walk at least 20 mins or more a day. dont want to push it in this heat. I need to continue that and it should help. I managed to walk around splish splash all day yesterday and felt good. even did a few easy rides. I saw a pregnant mom who was HUGE. I asked her how far along she was and she said she is due in OCT. MY heart sunk. Then she said its twins. I am an identical twin and everyone keeps asking me if I think I could have twins. I hope not. Chat Icon

If its any relief to hear, only fraternal twins are genetic - identical twins are a total fluke!!!

I am 33 now, and plan on having another - but not for a while - I'll be at least 35 when I do this again - I'll have to ask you for advice when that time comes!!! But its great to see all you ladies feeling great over 35-40!!!

Hey Liz. I was EXHAUSTED during my first trimester. I even fell asleep standing on the subway & missed my stopChat Icon I also was pretty much a vegetarian (although I do eat fish) before PG, but all I craved was friggin steak. OB said that is the baby letting me know that I was not getting enough protein.

Hope you feel betterChat Icon

Re: Moms over 35

I was 37 when I got PG last year with our first. I will be turning 38 next month with a 2 months baby.

I was totally exhausted in the 1st trimester. I could have slept on the floor of the supermarket.

Although I had an "uncomplicated" pregnancy in a medical way, it was rough. It took a toll on me. Lots of swelling, very uncomfortable. I had to wear flip flops in the end. I could not fit in any shoes.

It was nothing I had expected, yet I pulled through.

So can you!!! It goes fast. Really! Before you know it, it will be time to be ready for your baby. I remember it went one week after another then soon I was 30-34 weeks before I knew it.

With the baby, I got sleep deprived in the beginning (huge issue since I am a BIG sleeper) but it does get better as people say.
