I am officially DONE with discussing names with ANYONE!!!!
I had to suffer through MIL and SIL at a shower yesterday, drilling me about names.....it has gotten a little nutty.
MIL even said to me that if DH wants his son to have his name, then he should have it.......ummmm, what about ME? Dh refuses to give me the name I want because too many people in his family have it, but we can now make our son, if it IS a boy, a IIIrd?
Get over yourself.....
From now on, names are top secret, except for sharing with you, of course!

You have my sympathy. My mother insists we are having a  and insists on calling said future child Jake. If we have a he will be named after both grandfathers aka Charles Joseph. She was  about the name we picked for a  and wants to know "where on earth we came up with that?!"

This is exactly the reason why DH and I have kept the name a secret-although that hasn't been easy either b/c people have been hounding us about keeping it a secret as well.

 Sorry they are giving you a hard time.
We shared the name as well and now I feel "locked in" because EVERYONE in the family is referring to him as Andrew. There is no backing out now!

I agree w/you 100%!! Although most people have been pretty good about it when we tell them, we still have a few that criticize or voice their unwelcomed opinion. I can't stand it, I would never do that to someone if they told me their baby's name!

this is why we've decided against sharing the name with anyone until he is physically born and the name is written in ink on his birth certificate!

I actually changed the name I wanted for DD. I made the mistake of telling some people I wanted to name her Emma. People started constantly referring to her as Emma and I got so tired of it that I told them that name was out and we changed it to Taylor

I agree with you-it's funny, most people when they hear the name we chose at least have the decency to say "that's pretty/nice/sweet/etc/", whether they really like it or not. However, we have gotten "what made you decide on that?" and "is that a family name?".
I am not into trendy names, though I like many of them I prefer classic names for my own reasons. And the name isn't that old fashioned (Claire)!
Next baby-no one gets to know until the big day!

This is the way I feel! My mom had people give me books instead of cards at the shower and people wrote "Dear Sydney" inside...I know that is the name we are leaning towards - but now I feel like I HAVE TO name her that.

Sorry you have to go through that... But if it makes you feel better you are not the only one. We decided to find out the sex so we told everyone and now the question is whats the name so my response is that since we told everyone what it is we are deciding to keep the name a secret!!!!! But people are VERRRRRRY ANNOYING!!!! Hang in there..... Tell your MIL & SIL that when they decide to have another baby then they can pick whatever name that they want and for now to buttttttttttttt out
