I wouldn't run away, but I wouldn't be fake nice either. Let them see there is tension and approach him about it. My DH would be really pizzed if I told his parents something like that before he told them, but he would tell them the truth if asked.

I would grin and bear it, but your ILs are bound to feel the tension regardless of whether or not your speaking for show or not speaking at all.

Absolutely. I agree with this. The last thing you want is the ADDED tension of a big family blowout once your IL's find out about their sons' plans.

I guess i would just try to remain calm. But, I hate to ever bring the IL's into our "disagreements". It never works my MIL always knows when we something is up and usually she is helpful. I can vent and get it all off my chest. So not sure if this is helping you....but i hope you guys can get passed this sooner.

I would not be able to put on a happy face, but I also would not tell them what was going on, I would tell them to talk to their son about it. I would go about my normal stuff and be nice to them, but wouldn't be all nicey nicey with DH and fake. I have a hard time hiding my emotions.
