having a moment of panic
i am 29 weeks 3 days. so far the most weight i have gained according to my scale is about 14 pounds, which i thought was appropriate.
but just now i weighed myself and i am only up 9 pounds???
DH says it's fluid and that i need to drink more, and i agree, so i will do that.
but i am panicking about my baby - shouldn't he be getting bigger?? and as he gets bigger, shouldn't i be gaining weight???
i'm having a moment... so stressed about being on bedrest and possibly having a preemie and worrying that he might be too small in general...

Re: having a moment of panic
I am sure that everything is going to be OK.
My cousin acutally LOST weight throughout her pregnancy and she had a healthy baby girl! Everyone's body reacts differently.
Talk to your doctor again if you are still concerned. Hang in there!

What does your dr say? An important guide is how your uterus (or fundal height) iis measuring. Sometimes, it's possible for your baby to be gaining while you are actually losing so it evens out.
Also remember, the baby doesn't weigh very much. At 27 wks, my baby's estimated weight was only 2.5 lbs & then he went up only 2 lbs by 32 wks Check with your dr & try to relax

Re: having a moment of panic
Every once in a while when I feel I am gaining not enough or gaining too much I will try to estimate my calorie consumption for the day and see that I am getting all the food groups I need. I find that it is easy to slip into not eating enough for pregnancy if you weren't a big eater before. Try doing this and if you are getting the recc calories and food groups I wouldn't worry about the scale

Oh sweetie, don't panic. You need to try and stay calm and not stress yourself out. Try drinking more fluids and keeping yourself relaxed. The baby will be ok if you take care of yourself.

my fundal height has been totally fine, i have no reason to think he's not growing... this is just me being paranoid and stir crazy from sitting in my house on bedrest

Re: having a moment of panic
How far a long are you? I gained hardly any weight until well into my pregnancy (I've gained a ton as I hit the home stretch thought!) but the baby kept gaining.

Re: having a moment of panic
Dont panic! Your doctor is watching you and also if you are eating better, you could be losing weight and the baby is gaining weight which is keeping the number low.

i am 29 weeks, 3 days today... and my appetite is pretty good... i'm thinking that maybe i am just losing muscle mass because of being on bedrest, which is making the number go down on the scale while not really affecting my baby.
of course, the thought of wasting away my muscles makes me worry about getting in shape after baby... but at the same time, that is the least of my concerns right now...

Re: having a moment of panic
i wouldn't worry about it. The docs will tell you if they are concerned. Just be sure you are eating well and giving the baby the nutrients it needs to grow well. I wish i had that prob - mine is the opposite. I am retaining alot of water and i feel like i just look at food and gain weight. I think the gest. diabetes just makes my body store all carbs/sugars. I hope i'll be able to get back to normal. I know it must get boring but try to enjoy the down time while you have it.

Re: having a moment of panic
You can't worry about that right now. Believe me, the doctors would be all over it if they thought you weren't getting the proper nourishment. I'm sure you are doing a great job!! Try and hang in there with the bed rest!

Re: having a moment of panic
As long as your Dr is ok with it, don't worry I actually found days when I was PG that my weight went up and down. No biggie

Re: having a moment of panic
TRy to remain calm, your Dr is monitering you and that is what is important.
I hear that we are supposed to gain the most @ the very end, so that may start happening for you soon.

Re: having a moment of panic
You have so much to worry about. I'm sure this is not a big deal.
I actually lost weight thru most of my pregnancy, and actually only started to gain weight around my 30th week. Totally for this pregnancy, I've only gained 10 lbs. My baby is growing just fine!!!
Dont worry- I'm sure your baby is fine!
