Spinoff to the "contoversial" post
That post got me thinking what would be ethical whether or not you are or arent coming back... when are you telling work that you are starting disability?
For example I know I my last day will be the end of the week during my 36th week. My doctor said this a while ago but I didnt want the "dead man walking" treatment so I have kept it a secret. Now that its closer, I want to give them enough notice. But its not like I am leaving formally like as in "2 weeks notice".
Just wondering what others are doing.

So far I've told the truth. My intent is to work until I deliver unless my MD says otherwise.

Me too. I can also work from home so I am going to start doing that starting Oct 1.

Re: Spinoff to the "contoversial" post
my due date is Oct. 16 but i don't see commuting until the bitter end. maybe Sept. 28 will be last day. Will the docs just take us out when we decide to go?

I told my doctor I was getting nervous driving and my biggest fear was to go into labor at work and not make it to Good Sam. So she said that when she writes notes for women to go out in their 36th week, disability never really argues.

If I knew, I would say something so they can prepare (get a temp, etc).
I planned on working til at least 38 weeks, I made it to 36, but it was a complete surprise and just came up at 36 weeks, I didn't have time to say anything in advance.

Depends on your doctor and your situation. I had vacation and sick time accured, so I just took that.

that's what i ended up doing. i was honest and requested to stop working at 39 weeks knowing any time before the baby came out of my vacation time and personal time. i got lucky and still have over a week of vacation time since i delivered early.
i would just keep it honest, provided you are intending to return especially. the sooner you tell the better as well. i changed my mind on exact dates and time off several times, but knowing a general timeframe was helpful and appreciated, i even got a promotion while on maternity leave!

Re: Spinoff to the "contoversial" post
I let them know in advance around when I was thinking I'd be going....since I was leaving at about 36 weeks. But I didn't tell them the definite date and have a note until the week I was leaving. i mean, you've been pregnant for a while now - they've got to figure you're going to have to leave for maternity at some point in the near future, right? They should be preparing for that already!

Same thing here-I am now almost 39 weeks so I joke every time I leave that I'll see everyone in 6 weeks but if nothing happens this weekend I'll be there Monday morning.
