Have you had a successful garage sale???
I want to have one. we have so much stuff that MUST GO!
should I bother to advertise in local papers, or will I get enough action from signs on roads nearby.
Just wondering what a good strategy is?? Any advice appreciated!
TIA

Re: Have you had a successful garage sale???
I've had a successful yard sale. Actually, we had it at my ILs house. We got together about 3-4 families, advertised in Newsday and I put up a post on craigslist. They live off of Montauk Hwy so they put up a ton of signs. Good Luck!

Re: Have you had a successful garage sale???
to be honest, I don't think paying newsday a fee is neccessary. We've had ok garage sales at 3 different locations.
Between signs & craigslist (which are both free) you should be ok, especially if you are in an easy to get to location.

Re: Have you had a successful garage sale???
I've had several. I make tons of signs, use craigslist & garage sale I wouldn't pay newsdays crazy fee. I'd try pennysaver first. Our last one in June DH & I sold over $800, plus we had our friend & her son that sold stuff & made their own money.

Re: Have you had a successful garage sale???
It was for me. I just had one a month ago and got rid of 90% of everything and made 430 bucks- all crap too!!!!!! I advertised in pennysaver cost 38.00 and advertised on craigslist- had 1 person come from there that told me and then just put signs all over the neighborhood on main corners.
good luck it was actually a lot of fun and beware of the hagglers!!!!!

Re: Have you had a successful garage sale???
I had two of them. Got rid of so much stuff too.
We did not advertise. We bought some "yard/garage sale" signs at Home Depot and put them in the ground at closest roads intersections. We had a huge turn out with just the signs.
