Exercising
Getting exercise is really important to me--it keeps me energized, happy, etc.
For 6 years I have run about 2-3 miles and walked 1-2 miles a day 3-4 days a week and lifted weights (nothing crazy just enough to stay toned, mostly upper body).
My question is, can I continue this routine while pregnant? I just got my BFP and don't want to do anything I am not supposed to. I don't see the doctor for 4 more weeks, otherwise I would ask her. But I can't go that long without working out.
Any one especially those who run have advice?
Thanks!!!

Re: Exercising
I would check with your doctor. Mine wasn't wild about running, she thought walking or stationary cycling is better, but different doctors may have different thoughts on this. I do know it's important to not get over-heated, so running outside right now is probably not good and you may want to go slower than usual.
Lifting weights is okay, but your doctor will probably give you a limit. Mine told me no more than 10 lbs. (hand weights), though some may say even less.
Good luck!

Re: Exercising
I have exercised my whole life (well, prior to having two kids, that is!) pretty much the same amount you do. I took it easy the first trimester but did walk with weights, do the elliptical and still did yoga although none of the inversions. You could also get youself a heart monitor so you are sure you are staying within a healhly range for your pregnant body. I know of lots of women who have run throughout their pregnancy as long as it is something they did before getting a BFP. The key is to not let yourself get overheated or dehydrated.

Re: Exercising
Even though you dont have an actual doctors appointment, do NOT hesitate to call the office with a question.

Exactly. Typically, you can continue your exercise in a modified way. Walking should be fine. I'd hold off on running until you actually can call the doctor. Usually they tell you to limit your weight on lifting. Also, if you start spotting, you need to stop immediately. I was swimming nearly a mile per day and I got to continue that, but that isn't as stressful on the body.

Re: Exercising
I was exercising as usual, however I was so tired that I stopped running and walked instead. This this weekend I was spotting so I have to stop everything until I go next tuesday.

Re: Exercising
Thanks for your responses. I will call the doctor to ask about this.
I am so early on in my pregnancy, and feel totally normal (if the PG test didn't come back positive, I wouldn't believe I was even pregnant!). I don't want to totally stop now, because I may feel tired or have MS down the road and really not be able to exercise at all.
I like the idea of getting a heart monitor. Thanks!
