If you are testing your glucose daily...

do your numbers have any rhyme or reason to them?

It seemed at first that the numbers would increase as the day went on but lately the numbers are jumping around even though I'm not changing much diet or exercise-wise.

I only had 1 failing number so far and it was only by 2 points so I am happy about that but I was wondering if anyone else sees their numbers fluctutating or staying more constant.

Thanks!

Re: If you are testing your glucose daily...

My fasting number is usually between 90-95...then after breakfast around 90 then lunch and dinner fluctuates depending what I eat but generally 110ish. My Endocronoligst said to try to keep the food choices consistent but that gets boring. I do try for the most part to have the same breakfast though.

i will let you know tomorrow hopefully. I haven't received my little tester yet Chat Icon

i dont think it really matters if they get higher/lower etc... as long as they're within range. I think its a perfect example of how it has more to do with our bodies and how they want to process than what we are actually doing? if this makes sense???

Re: If you are testing your glucose daily...

One thing I noticed is that it is not just the exchanges (1 milk, 1 starch, 1 meat, etc...) but the number of total carbs can affect the number.

For example: Cottage Cheese is considered a meat - just as an egg is considered meat. But Cottage Cheese has carbs (4 oz of Low Fat has about 5g) and an egg does not (well it has less than 1 gram) ...

Re: If you are testing your glucose daily...

I'm finding that my numbers tend to peak after lunch. For me, the nurtitionist wants them under 135. Fasting will be fine (75ish), after breakfast 110-117, after dinner 95-105 but after lunch is 120-129ish. I haven't gone over, but I've gotten closest with lunch.

What's interesting is I can eat the same thing for dinner one night as I do for lunch on a different day and get totally different readings.

I wonder if our bodies have a cycle of when you'd have higher readings?Chat Icon

Thanks girls!
Ooooh my nutritionist is strict! Chat Icon

My fasting has to be 60 - 90 and the 2 hr past meal time has to be less than 120.

So my fasting is usually 80 - 90 and then my other numbers are anywhere from upper 70's to 100. But I did get a 115 and a 122 after dinner.

It seems after dinner is when it is highest.

I actually basically have the same goals that you do- the 135 is ONE hour after eating, not two. She didn't tell me to test for 2. Apparently every nutritionist is different....

Good job keeping the numbers down!

Re: If you are testing your glucose daily...

My numbers are highest in the AM ... fasting and right after breakfast. They say (the peri and the nutritionist) that is when my body has the most trouble producing / absorbing insulin ... so yea, I think you can have certain times that will be weak for you ...

And I know that exercise is important in this whole thing too. I have been walking 20 minutes after dinner and 10 minutes or so after lunch.

I hope I can keep that up as I get bigger.
