Hospitals???
Some of you may have read that I have to switch OBs. DH & I are moving so it doesn't make sense to stick with who my current MD is recommending b/c that hospital is 45 minutes away from our new home.
Our new home is right smack in the middle of: University Hospital at Stony Brook, St. Charles & Mather.
Which would you chose and why???

Re: Hospitals???
I don't know if Mather delivers, but I have heard nothing but great things about St. Charles. I also have heard good things about Stonybrook. I am delivering at St. Charles so I am biased, but I don't you can go wrong with either place. Good luck!

Re: Hospitals???
Mather doesnt deliver. I delivered both of my guys at St. Charles and they were terrific. At 32 weeks pg, I had to spend the night at Stony Brook and met with the nicu team and a ton of other drs (which I didnt need after all, thank goodness) and the care was great there too. But I'm partial to St. Charles and my ob is affiliated with St. Charles.

Re: Hospitals???
St. Charles!!! I would have loved to deliver there.
Mather doesn't deliver, as another poster said.

Re: Hospitals???
I was supposed to deliver at St Charles but since I gave birth at 35 weeks via emergency c-section, I had to go to Stony Brook. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. If I have another baby I would go back and deliver there again. (plus it is less than 2 miles from my house and St Charles is such a pain to get to from my house)

Re: Hospitals???
I have spent 2 nights in Labor and Delivery over the past week at St. Charles and they are so darn friendly!!!! I love them there!!!! I was told that if there was any problem with the baby then we'd be taken to Stony Brook. So I am assuming that Stony Brook is better at emergencies. Your call on that one.

Re: Hospitals???
I'm a lurker, but wanted to add my two cents! I hope you don't mind! My SIL delivered at St. Charles last year and had a wonderful experience. We visited her and the hospital is really beautiful and clean. The nurses were so nice and very attentive. My other SIL delivered 2 kids at Stonybrook and did not have a very good experience with either. I really don't know all the details since DH and I were barely dating at the time.

Re: Hospitals???
I chose stony brook b/c I'm using a midwife. they have home like setting rooms. My mom just had a baby 3 years ago and delivered my lil' sister there and had a great experience...thats why I chose Univ. Stony Brook.

Re: Hospitals???
I delivered at Stony Brook and it was great. I used a midwife and everyone was terrific including the nurses and even the custodians! I had a private room with a shared bathroom. Their food was good too! I joked about not being able to eat various things during my pregnancy due to a sugar issue so once I had her I was chowing down! Their visiting hours are a lot better than at St. Charles too. At St. Charles visitors cannot hold the baby, they are actually put in the nursery during visiting hours. At least this is what my friend told me.
