Sleeping on your back...
Is that really bad for the baby? If so, then at what point in the pg should you stop sleeping on your back. It's the only way I can get some sleep these days.
BTW....I'm just shy of 10 weeks

I don't think you have to really worry about it until you are six months along. I still wind up on my back alot of the time

Re: Sleeping on your back...
They say not to do it after 16 weeks (4 months) because of the pressure on the Vena Cava. By the time you get 'big' you may not be able to sleep on your back anyway... I know when I lie flat now it is very uncomfortable!

Re: Sleeping on your back...
Once I was uncomfy on my belly - I started sleeping on my back. I did so until that became uncomfy where I felt I couldn't breathe right. With my first pregnancy - I would always start on my sides and always wound up on my back - I never had breathing issues.

Re: Sleeping on your back...
Basically you will know if you can sleep on your back or not..If you are comfortable there there is nothing to worry about.
Im 32 weeks now and depending upon the position of the baby I will sleep on my back. As I get further and further along the chances are slim that he will be in a good position for this to be comfortable though.

Re: Sleeping on your back...
Its not bad for the baby at all, but it is not the best position for you...there is a main artery that brings blood back to your heart that is located around your spinal area, and when you're laying on your back (especially in the latter stages) the weight presses on that artery slowing down your blood flow. I am a big back sleeper and it was so hard for me not to sleep on my back. My doctor advised me that as long as I felt comfortable sleeping on my back it was fine to do so, but to be honest with you, as the baby got bigger, it became more painful. So now I sleep half-way on my side and half-way on my back (with my snoogle under my back). At times I still wake up at night sleeping on my back, but its the pain that wakes me up. Listen to your body and do what's comfortable for you. But you're not in any shape or form hurting the baby.

I sleep however I can. On my back is usually uncomfortable now, but every once in a while, I find myself that way.

Re: Sleeping on your back...
I sleep best on my back, but go to sleep on my side because I know I should.
I always wake up on my back though. It's not good for circulation and as you get bigger it could affect your breathing......

Re: Sleeping on your back...
Yeah, I've heard this isn't good also, for the same reasons others have posted. Though I've never been a big back sleeper, I'm finding I often wake up on my back lately (I start on my side).
When I'm sleeping on my side, one of my legs often gets numb, and I think that's why I do this. Hopefully, it's not such a bad thing.

Re: Sleeping on your back...
I alternate back to side. I am so uncomfortable most of the time that however I can sleep its how I do it.

Re: Sleeping on your back...
Earlier in my pregnancy, I would sometimes sleep on my back...but the further along I got, the less I did that.
Now, at almost 35 weeks, it's pretty uncomfortable, so I'm usually on one side or the other...
