Is a town house REALLY a house?
What are your opinions?
I know this should probably be on the home board but there's more to it.. a cousin of mine just bought one and it seems like she's always tried to compete with me.. it's quite annoying. So, she's going on and on asking me how many bedrooms my house is and what rate we got our mortgage at.. etc.. and how SHE is doing this all on her own and she does not need a man or husband to do it. I felt that was a dig or something so I told her straight out.. not for nothing but your not the only one... even if I was not with my husband I still would be able to buy a home on my own too.. so who cares!
Obviously she does need someone to help her with the mortgage b/c she is going to need a roomate to help her pay the mortgage.. I wish she would just trying to come off as this independent person....

She doesn't have to mow the lawn, or shovel, right?

Re: Is a town house REALLY a house?
Well, it's attached, but most townhouses on Long Island cost as much as small houses, so I'd say yes...
As a single woman I would think she'd rather have a townhouse to not have to shovel or mow, and I think I'd feel more safe since it is connected.
That doesn't make it right though--I don't know why she'd be competitive about it.

People are always so jealous of what they don't have. It would be SO much easier if everyone was just happy for eachother and could cut the bs.

Sure it's a house! And I do think it's impressive that someone can afford one on their own - maybe she's just proud of her accomplishment?

I think it's a house - especially since that's all DH and I will be able to afford if we stay in Northern VA where the cheapest single family home is like $500K...

Re: Is a town house REALLY a house?
IMO, I don't consider it the same as a house. For me, one of the reasons I no longer want to rent is hearing neighbors through the walls, and the proximity of everyone. I have no desire to buy something that is attached to another home, no matter how nice it is.
I do admire her ability to finance it on her own.

She actually bought the town house in NJ. I am happy for her I just wish she wasn't so judgemental and opinionated with everyone in the family. Oh well, everyone has their faults right?
