Pregnancy Books

Did anyone buy a pregnancy book? I don't know if it is worth since I am online all the time. If so, which did you get? I heard What to Expect...can be more anxiety provoking than helpful. What do you think?

Re: Pregnancy Books

I got "What to Expect" and found it very helpful -- not anxiety provoking at all. In fact, the web seems more anxiety provoking to me since if you find yourself panicking about something and want the quickest answer on the web you may not be able to stop and consider the source you are getting your info from. I agree that you shouldn't go crazy and buy every book -- one or two at most. And even when you have a book you will find yourself going to the web for second, third, fourth, etc opinions and info.

If you're unsure about what to buy you might want to check out a few from your local library or go sit in Barnes and Nobles for a while thumbing through them.

Re: Pregnancy Books

I read the girlfriends guide to pregnancy which was funny and helpful. I bought What to Expect and Your Pregnancy Week by Week and have been very happy with both of them.

Re: Pregnancy Books

I have "What to Expect" and "You and Your Baby Pregnancy".

Both are helpful. The first one is monthly, second one is weekly.

I think people get freaked out because they believe the worst can happen. I'm not like that though, so I didn't get freaked out at all.

And "Belly Laughs" by Jenny McCarthy, just to show you what women should talk about, but don't. Except on here of course. Chat Icon

Re: Pregnancy Books

I have What to Expect..., Your Pregnancy week by week and Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy.

I think what to expect is a great reference, but after a while, I stopped reading it sequentially. It didn't freak me out, it was just a little overwhelming because there is SO much info in it, much of which doesn't apply to everyone.

The Girlfriend's Guide was a faster read, funny and helpful from a layperson's experience on what to expect.

Your Pregnancy Week by Week I think gives you a good overview of what to expect each week. I generally read that once each week and refer to What to Expect for any questions or concerns I have.

Re: Pregnancy Books

I have Your Pregnancy Week by Week and What to Expect While You're Expecting. I love Week by Week. What to Expect gave me nightmares after the first chapter so I haven't read it since.

Re: Pregnancy Books

Highly Reccomend:

* Your Pregnancy Week by Week
* Baby Bargains
* Baby 411
* Happiest Baby on the Block
* Belly Laughs (for a wuick fun read)

I looked at What to Expect twice and haven't picked it up again.
I didn't really like Girlfriend's Guide,thought it was mostly silly and not very informative at all.

I also have What to Expect and am slugging through it, but I don't really enjoy it. Yes there is a lot of info in it, but most of it isn't that useful for me. I didn't really like Girlfriend's Guide either, it took me a long time to read. I didn't enjoy the way it was written, and didn't find it very informative.
