Show me your bookcase
I want to get a bookcase for DD's room, but DH is concerned that when she is older, she can try to climb it and tip it over. It would be kind of hard to secure anything to our walls.
I need something low, decorative and inexpensive. Any ideas? TIA!

we bought a tall bookcase (henvick or something like that) at IKEA for $59 - it's part of their line of furniture for kids - they probably make smaller bookcases too.

I bought one at Lowes'...I paid about $70, and it matches the boys furniture.
Target had some nice ones, but I thought Lowes had better prices

I have a small bookcase in each of my kids rooms. One is a 3 shelf one from IKEA. It came with a bracket to secure it to the wall. The other one is a smaller one we picked up in Target. This is in my son's room and is only 2 shelves high.

We have the taller version in our nursery (cost $59) we painted the back of the shelves a contrasting color.
This version is $49 - from IKEA.

Don't have photos, but I built a bookshelf that right now is shared between DW and DS. It's about 4' tall. To make it secure, I took a section of fabric strapping (very strong, part of a tie-down system where the buckle broke). I just found a stud behind the bookcase, and screwed it into the bookcase and the wall. Since studs are every 16", you're bound to find a stud behind the bookcase. It's the only way to guarantee it won't tip. Even a 2' one will tip over, and if it's full of books, it could be fairly heavy.

I bought one from Lowes. It's a nine cubby shelf that sits about 3 feet high. It has fabric cubes that fit in the cubbies that hold the toys. I put the books in the middle cubbies (without the fabric cubes). It looks cute and it was less than $100 for the shelf and cubes. I think target sells the same thing, although they didn't have the color I bought (cherry).

I second that, it's relatively simple to attach the furniture to the walls with furniture straps, we did that with our dd's bookcase and both dressers, even the one that was only 3 drawers and relatively small. It's so easy for them to climb up and topple over, then everything on them could fall on your child. You can buy the furniture straps, they will come with instructions on how to install them.
I have a bookcase that looks like this... I got it from KMart but I don't see the exact one on their site, this one is more expensive but similar in size/shape.
