Mine went down $5k. I heard in many case 10k or more. IT all depends on location and how bad the owner wants out.

Re: What's the norm in price?

You have to look at how long the house has been on the market, has the price been lowered...... lots of variables.

When I purchsed my home in December I paid 45,000.00 less than original asking. The owner had just lowered the asking 30,000.00 from her original asking and I offered her 25,000.00 less than her current asking we agreeed to 15,000.00 off of her current asking.

You really have to look at the area and what the house is worth. Anyone can ask any crazy price.....

If the home is in Nassau I suggest you learn how to use this website
Click Property search
I agree
only enter street number and Street name.
pick the house from the list.
http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/mynassauproperty/main.jsp

You can see what homes in the neighborhood have sold for and what the assessed value is, I purchased my home for 20,000.00 less than the assessed value.

Good luck, Tom

Re: What's the norm in price?

i think it depends on the area, and the time the house is on the market..

We bought our house for 54k less than asking!

It does depend upon location, and the asking price. Ours came down $10 K, which we felt was very fair considering the condition of th ehouse and the location. Their asking price wasn't very high either.

Re: What's the norm in price?

$26,500, but even more from the original asking! They had to sell their house. But it really depends on how long and how bad they need to sell. Also they might owe a lot on the house still and they are looking for a certain number. GL!

Re: What's the norm in price?

I also agree that it depends on how long it's been on the market, how ridiculous the original asking price is, how desperate the people are to sell and how much work the house needs.

My friend just bought a house and offered $35K under asking. I thought she was nuts. Turns out, it was an estate sale and this was the last of many properties to be sold on Li. They took the offer, they were so desperate to just sell it.

Unfortunately, you don't always know the sellers situation and if you offer too low, they may get insulted and not even counter.
