Re: child care

I think I am in avoidance at the moment!

I know that I am staying home with the baby for 3 months, so I figure that I can look into it then.... plus, my mom had hinted at the fact that she may want to make herself available when I go back to work, which would be my perfect scenario.

Can't really bring myself to think about child care yet! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: child care

I'm not due until January, and I am a teacher so I am probably not going back to work until the following September, but it is already something that we have been discussing. I would love to find someone that does it in their house who is recommended by someone. I am going to start asking around at work.

Re: child care

I am due September 4th and just finished setting up childcare cause I just didn't want to worry about it anymore. I'm not going back to work until right before Thanksgiving. A woman by the school I work in is going to watch the baby. So she'll go to school with me and I'll pick her up afterschool. She was reccommended to me by another woman who uses her and I felt VERY comfortable after meeting with her for two hours.

It's such a terrible decision to have to make! For me, it seems like we would spend so much of my paycheck on full time day care that I wonder if it's even worth it.

Who wants to feel like they are working to pay for day care???

Re: child care

I'm not due til February and already it's a subject that we've discussed.

I will stay home for three months, and will find someone who does child care in their home.

Re: child care

I'm due 09/15 & just started really thinking about it this week.

I plan to be home for 6-7 months. Dh works nights so he thinks he can stay with the baby all day but I have a feeling he'll be too exhausted.

The day care at my job is $800/mo but there is also an in-home day care right on my block that I might look into. It's a really hard decision (& an expensive one!)

Re: child care

I heard that if you do choose to use day care (ie tutor time or the learing experience) that you should start looking asap. There are waiting lists that are extremely long. I had a friend start looking into it when she was 10 weeks pg and she was put on a waiting list!

Re: child care

I WISH I could stay home the first year. Sadly, we just cannot afford that. I really do not want to put my baby in day care so early on. But I know it may be necessary.

I think however, I am all set. My cousin who had a baby in December and decided to stay home said she will watch my little guy part time when I go back to work. My DH mom said she would do the other part time, but she needs to retire first. So my cousin just yesterday offered to take the baby full time until MIL retires.

This makes me feel so much better. But we will see how it all pans out in the endChat Icon

I have heard this from some young moms I work with. Most of them were on waiting lists while still pg. UGH! I am going to start looking at places in a few months....although I dread it.

Re: child care

I already set up child care for the baby. I looked at a few places around 35-36 weeks and made arrangements at one. It's good to do it now.

Re: child care

I am due in December. I am looking to watch another child in my Ronkonkoma home. I guess starting maybe in the beg. of February. Let me know if you are interested and we can work out a very reasonabe price. I would most likely like to take somone with teacher hours, but I am flexible. Thanks so much....

Re: child care

I really have to start looking into this. I'm very concerned about the hours for childcare places. DH and I both work in the city, and my commute runs about 1 1/2 hours. Neither of our employers are very flexible with hours either, so I'm not too sure how we will manage the drop-off/pick-up.

I'm beginning to think shortly after the baby is born, I'll need to look for another job on the island.Chat Icon I'd like to be closer to home, but the idea of going through this process with a new baby at home is not sounding good right now.

If you are planning on returing to work, I would definately start looking. In my area there are long waiting lists (up to 10 months)
