What Master's degree would I get....

if I wanted to continue as an admin in a school/college setting? I just got a job as an admin asst at a college and already love it. I want to get my Master's (since we have full tuition reimbursement) and am trying to see what kind of Master's I would get.

Would it be an MBA (business admin) or MPA (public admin) or something else?

My mom works for a college on LI and the admins have a variety of degrees. She thinks that business is the best fit, since if you change your mind down the line you can get a management position elsewhere pretty easily.

It depends what you want to continue doing - it is not necessary - as you have probably found out - to get a Master's degree in order to work on a university administrative level, but if you're going to get the Master's for free - in my experience, a lot of people get a Master's in College Personnel Services (or some related title) - if they don't have that type of program, I've seen many get a Master's in Counseling - that is if you think you want to work with students, stay on the student side of things. If you think you want to go to the business side of things in a college, an MBA would be a good choice, but if you're more student-minded, I would first concentrate on a student-related degree.

Definitely an MPA BUT I would suggest that you get an MBA since even though it focuses mostly on the private sector, you can still use it in the public sector...you can do a lot more with an MBA as opposed to an MPA (speaking from experience as an MPA).
