When Can One Take Maternity Leave?
Just curious for those who will be taking maternity leave or had done so...
Is there a waiting period to when you can take maternity leave when you just recently started a new job?
I am still looking for a job right now and am concerned about getting pregnant and requesting maternity leave before I've worked one year.
I heard some companies won't allow you to take paid maternity unless you've worked a full year.
Any thoughts?

Pay varies company by company. As for eligibility for FMLA (12 weeks off, regardless of pay), you must work there for 1 year.

And your company must have more than 50 employees.
I worked for a small company, was not eligible for FMLA and worked there full time for over 3 years. They fired me when I was 38 weeks pg.
Mine was an extreme case, but usually if you work for a company with more than 50 employees and have been there a year, they will hold your job for 12 weeks. They do not have to pay you anymore than the like $170 a week (MAX) that NYS STD pays you. And you will only get that for 6 weeks for a vaginal birth and 8 weeks for a c-section.
it all pretty much blows unless you work for a good company that will pay you a good portion of your salary and hold your job.

Wow, they fired you after 38 weeks? Isn't there some kinda action you can take against them?
What company is that so we can avoid them in the future? :)

HUH!?!?!?!?
That's unbelievable. Did you get a lawyer? 50 people or not, that's really terrible
