Re: is it ok to sleep on your back?

I read in pregnancy week by week that it is not good for the baby bc it can cut off blood flow
I have been having the most difficult time not sleeping on my back or stomachChat Icon

Re: is it ok to sleep on your back?

I asked my doctor that and she said not to do it all the time but its safe. The major artery doesnt run directly through the center of your back for one thing and she also said that if it wasnt safe, overweight people would be cautioned not to sleep on their backs. I was so happy to hear that because I am most comfortable on my back.

I fall asleep on my side, but someitmes I wake up on my back. Then I just roll over. Your body won't let you if it's bad, especially towards the end.

Yes.

It is better to sleep at all then spend your time flipping over all of the time. Also, you will wake up if the baby is in abad position.

My Dr says that you will know when to roll over even in your sleep...it will be uncomfortable and you will have a shortness of breath...I can honestly say that I have experienced this from time to time....

Re: is it ok to sleep on your back?

The medical reason is that you compress blood flow to the baby and yourself when you are on your back.....it will cause dizziness, shortness of breath and sever nausea. Try to sleep on your left side...use pillows if needed or a snuggler. The left is prefered to help move the pressure off of the vena cava. The right is better then the back...I know it's hard, but it's the best thing for the baby

Re: is it ok to sleep on your back?

If you can do it, then its proly ok for now. Your body will react with discomfort when it cannot take you sleeping on your back anymore. The body has a great way of letting you know anytime you're doing something that it can't take.
