Glucose Test Question - what would you do
My dr. is giving me the option of skipping the 1hr test and going straight for the 3 hr test because of my family history. I have 2 sisters that diabetic and are insulin dependant, my father was a food controlled diabetic and so were his parents.
So should I say why bother going for the 1 hr if I am going to fail and go right for the 3 hr. or should I be positive and go for the 1 hr. hoping I pass.

Re: Glucose Test Question - what would you do
I would definitely go straight to the 3 hour. Its annoying to the 1 hr- fail, then do the 3 hour.

Re: Glucose Test Question - what would you do
I would just go for the 3 hour...I was hoping to by pass the 1 hour as well but I had a bit of a miscommunication problem with the drs office and wound up doing the 1 hour at my last appointment..only to fail..I am presently waiting for the results of the 3 hour.

Re: Glucose Test Question - what would you do
I might just go for the 3 hour. I just took mine on Monday (I am thinking positive and assuming I passed as I haven't heard back from the doctor about it)
I brought my laptop and played around in LIF while I waited!
Good luck!!!

Re: Glucose Test Question - what would you do
I thought gestational diabetes and familial history of diabetes were totally separate... but i could be wrong. I would say go for the three hour if you are questioning the one hour so much. I have heard that the one hour is just a screening and frequently inaccurate. ( I have taken the three hour with both my pg after failing the one hour and passed)

Re: Glucose Test Question - what would you do
I would go straight for the 3 hour with your family history. The three hour is much more exact anyway - why make two trips.

Re: Glucose Test Question - what would you do
straight for the 3 hour test. It is not painful and will give you the most accurate results. Bring DH with you, water, a book/magazine and a snack for the minute the test is over. Good Luck

Re: Glucose Test Question - what would you do
I would skip to the 3 hour test....it cant hurt and if you feel you are going to fail the one hour, you might as well get it over with in the 3 hour test
