Need advice
On our fully executed contract it states that we close on or around August 1. We do not have a definitive date until we get that date from the bank/mortgage We are going to be in the new house sometime in August. However, we are planning on living out July's security where we are now and out on August 1. I think it would be smart to wait to tell are LL that we are moving by Aug 1 after the bank does the appraisal. If the house appraises, which I am sure it will then that's gret but GOD forbid it does not, I want to make sure we have a back up plan and can still have our apt. Do you think it makes sense to wait to tell our LL until the appraisal is done?
We will be staying with DH's mother for 2 weeks until we actually move in to the house. We are looking into a storage pod and will keep the pod at the warehouse stored until we know what exactly the closing date will be.
TIA!!!

Re: Need advice
Usually "on or around" means 30 days before or 30 days after that date on the contract.....that brings you anywhere b/t July 1st - Sept. 1st.... unless both sides agree to a more specific date, I wouldn't tell you LL anything...... Did you see comps from other area sales?? that will give you a better idea of what to expect w/the appraiser.... you might want to consider "waiting it out" in your current place, it might be cheaper and more convenient then renting a storage pod and living w/the inlaws...... GL.. I hope things run smoothly for you

Re: Need advice
Well, my on our about date was 6/15 and I still don't have a closing date.
As for living out your security, unless you have an agreement w/ your LL I don't think that's legal. You should be paying your last month's rent and if the apt. is in the same condition, then you'll get the security back.
I would wait to tell the landlord. ANYTHING can happen from now until then.
Good Luck!

Re: Need advice
We just waited until we were in contract to tell our landlord we were moving out. We had to give 60 days notice and we had to pay rent up until they left. They mailed us our security deposit afterwards.
