Shiva visit

I'll be paying respects this weekend to a friend who's sitting shiva. Is noon or 12:30 too early to arrive? Is an hour a respectable amount of time to stay? Should I bring anything?

Whatever the time is that the family is receiving visitors is fine - I would prob try and double check with someone. Personally, I've never paid a shiva call on the weekend - so I was usually just going after work in the evening.

Most people bring a food item - usually cookies or baked goods - you could always send a food basket if you preferred. I usually go with a box of bakery cookies. Whatever you bring or send, just make sure it's kosher. And don't send flowers.

just remember, u would have to go saturday night. some people sit shiva after shabbos or u could go on sunday

We'll most likely go Sunday. We'll be in their area for a family function at 2pm; that's why I hoped to stopped by my friend's beforehand.
