so i was talking about it today....
Hurley friend...the one that told him about the numbers originally...
Going on the fact that this was a human experiment...a human skinner box. Humans are there for a finite about of time until something went wrong....
Hurley's friend was most likely someone who was apart of the experiment...and since he is so trained to plug in the numbers that is why he kept repeating them. The repercussions of being in the experiment?

Hurleys friend def had to know something about what the numbers meant- and its quite possible if he wasnt on the island himself punching in those numbers that he found the literarture/tape and became obsessed with it.

This sounds about right to me as well
This week's coming episode is (I believe) going to get back to Hurley's "backstory" . so I'm hoping we get a little more insight into the whole mental hospital experience
(though knowing this show.. it'll answer maybe ONE question and ASK about 10 more!!!  )

Im thinking too maybe it was Hurleys friend, whose parents were the inventors or maybe that is his dad that was in the window- he has to have some sort of significance role in this to know about the numbers.. I cant wait for wed! and Flee youre right- it will answer 1 and make us all crazy with a zillion thoughts and questions!!!!

I hadn't thought of that but it makes a lot of sense.
Like Flee said, I think we get a little more Hurley backstory this week which might clear some stuff up. I hope so at least, because the last two flashbacks haven't really answered many questions!!
