Re: If you had a garage sale
I've done a lot and some where better than others, but I usually at least make $40, which is worth it to me. As a whole, we usually make over $250.

Re: If you had a garage sale
We had one last year... and did great.
What sells the most
- baby gear and clothes - men clothing - electronics (printer, tv, vcr) - small appliances - curtains - furniture - crystal
Hit and miss:
- books - magazines - dishes - wallart
No real success with women clothing or shoes

Re: If you had a garage sale
My mom and a few of her friends get together once a year to have a big yard sale. They do really well and whatever they don't sell they donate. My mom also gets rid of stuff on eBay.

Re: If you had a garage sale
We had one last year, in two days we made almost $500! Worth every minute of the easy "tanning". And we live in a relatively quiet neighborhood.

i just did a yard sale like 2 weeks ago. i made $350. Got rid of a lot of stuff. i think people who make less than $150 is b/c they are not so good at it. (advertising, setting up etc.) I do one every year to get rid of last year's stuff and buy something new. you get better at it so i would definitly do it.
also, i am in suffolk county.

Re: If you had a garage sale
I did one memorial day weekend with my sister, and neighbor. We did it all day Sat, and maybe like 4 hrs on Sunday. We each made about $180 bucks. We didnt advertise except put our cars on two different corners with signs on them and everything we were selling was dirt cheap. My theory was it is going from driveway to curb so whatever I got was a bonus. Most things were $1-10 bucks. I actually had someone come and took 30 pairs of used jeans he offered .50cents a pair and said it would take the whole lot he was sending it back to his country and didnt even care about sizes it was the quickest $15 bucks of the day.

Re: If you had a garage sale
The key is advertising...I've had them with no advertising and it's hardly worth it. Put an ad in the Pennysaver and/or Newsday and signs everywhere leading into your street.

Re: If you had a garage sale
I had one a few weeks ago... I advertised in newsday... I think is was $25 (ish) for a week. We had a lot of people. My town has some strict rules. We had to get a permit and we were only aloud to have it for 1 day....but we made about $500. It was well worth it to get rid of a lot of junk!

I just went to advertise in newsday but they want 45.00 for a week for 3 lines. how do you fit it in 2 lines? I think that is cheaper.

I bought those GARAGE SALE signs at home depot with the stakes that go in the ground (like Open houses). I put in on the main road and at several intersection by my house.
I put them 2 days prior to the yard sale.
You can also post in craiglist.

i did the ad only in the paper...its more money if you put the ad in the paper and online. I don't remember how many lines it was.
