Yes they can tell him. They can tell him to tone down or be written up & possibly dismissed.

They can tell him that he must dress in purple polka dots every day. It may be a crazy rule but as long as it doesn't discriminate they can certainly make them.

Those musk oils can be very strong. However, I think this can be tricky and it has to be approached in a very professional manner, because lawsuits can happen very easily, and people can get offended VERY easily. They can try and use the "allergies" excuse, but they CANNOT write up and dismiss someone for wearing perfume. The same way they don't have a right to tell someone who doesn't wear deodorant, they HAVE to wear it. Some peoples religious beliefs do not allow them to wear deodorant.

Good Luck.

Re: HR people...I have a ?

I am not sure if they can tell him not to wear it but they can def make him aware that it is bothering people...

at my current job a co-worker and myself were called into our bosses office and were asked to please "think" about putting perfume on in the morning because someone in our area complained that it was bothering her. My boss said that technically they can't tell us not to wear it but they can make us aware of the situation.

at the time we both stopped wearing it...but honestly...i have to say....after some time passed we both started wearing it again.
