How do you feel about
a couple that attends a party empty-handed because they know a set of parents will be there to "cover their gift"?
Ok, how about if the couple is 30 and MARRIED?!?!?
Not even a congratulatory card.... 
And the parents' card DIDN'T include the couple's names.
I'm writing out thank you cards, and I swear - Rich's family shocks me more and more everyday.

In general I would say that's pretty rude. But I do have a cousins wedding coming up that I don't plan on sending a gift for. I'll let my parents handle it, because I don't really want anything to do with that side of the family. They screwed me when it was my wedding, so what goes around comes around.
My aunt and uncle canceled at the last minute and then said cousin canceled as well- after my parents had paid for his flight.

Extremely Tacky and ridiculous!
The day I moved out, I was "On My Own" with EVERYTHING!!!!
Yes, we "chip" in sometimes as well, but, I ALWAYS bring a card and may even throw in some scratch off lotto tickets to add to it.

I am sure the parents didn't give MORE to cover their kids, they gave more so the recipient could receive MORE

the weird part was that the kids (hah - 30!) name wasn't on the card!
I wonder if the parents planned on "covering it" for them?

I'm actually in a similiar situation. Dh and I just ordered the Thank You Pics from Marianna's Christening. Dh's mother keeps telling us that she plans on giving us something for the baby, but to date she hasn't....(The Christening was April 15th, and we see his mother everyday because she lives in an apartment in our house)
Dh and I don't know if we should send her a Thank You.
DH joked..."what are we Thanking her for; eating the food that we paid for?"

I think it would be funny, if it wasn't so sad.
my mil did this a few years ago for my 2 bil's. i find it ridiculous. they are over 18 adn should give their own gifts.

That is when I would write out a thank you saying - Thank you for attending the Graduation Party - hope you had a great time
