wake situation.
A co workers father died- he was very old and it was expected although it still doesnt make it any easier anyhow, The wake is tonight in franklin square from 7-9. The thing is its going to be very very hard for me to get there plus Im not feeling great. I live in Rocky point so it would take me forever to get there and then I have to pick up the baby first after work and drive 1hr home drop him off at home with Dh and then drive 1.5+ hours to get to the wake. Normally if it was a co worker that we just an aquantince i wouldnt think about going but she is a friend, we have gone out aside from work, and she is always thoughtful she is crafty and always making things for me, sending cards and she came to my wedding, showers etc. Im at a loss of what to do. Is there anyway else that I can express my sympathy? or do you think that it is a must that I go? I never met her dad but she would talk about him alot...Im unsure and want to do the right thing. Its just that it would be hard on me to get there.

Re: wake situation.
Can you leave work early or have your DH or someone else to pick up your child from day care?

Re: wake situation.
If you can't get there tonight how about sending something to her house..a fruit basket, flowers or edible arrangement?

I was thinking this too. Give her a call and let her know why you can't make it. She'll understand.

Considering how friendly you are with her, I think you should do everything you can to be there at the wake, whether or not you met her dad doesn't matter. If it's truly that difficult and you are sick, I would make sure she understands why you weren't there and send her a card and fruit basket or something.

This has my vote too. If you can't make it to the wake, sending her something will let her know you are in her prayers.
