QUestion regarding health insurance..
My friend was let go from our job on friday, and they cancelled her medical effective that day she just found out.
Isn;t it a federal thing that she has to at least get notice of it so she can do something? SHe will get cobra package in about 10 days or so she was told...

At my previous jobs, you always paid for health insurance a month in advance - so even if they cancelled today, it would not be inactive until this week in June.
I'm not sure if that is for every job, though...

If she accepts COBRA, the effective date will be the day of termination and she should be able to submit her medical claims and get reimbursed from the insurance company.

but, she will not even get her cobra paperwork for at least 10 more days...
I was under the impression you would get like at least 10 days notice of cancellation. You get notice of cancellation when you do not pay your insurance...

Employement is a condition for being on the group plan, since she is no longer employed she had to be terminated. If she elects to continue insurance it will be retroactive so any claims she makes between now & then will get covered.

insurance can be cancelled the day someone is terminated. There is no law against it etc.
IF she is entitled to Cobra and fills out and gets the paperwork in in time, it will have to be retroactive to the date she was terminated...

I thought your medical continues until the end of the month, then the next month she would have to pay out of pocket to COBRA. I could be wrong though.

I thought this too, its what happened when I left my old job...
That's how my job handles it, you have until the end of the month and at that point you will get the COBRA package/option.
